And while it’s entirely possible that I’m reading too much into this, remember it’s the likes of John Cena and Roman Reigns who open the Raw and SmackDown video packages respectively.

Now, I’m certainly not saying Ibushi’s the CWC equivalent of John Cena—partly because that would be a ridiculous claim, and partly because of the chastising I’d get from wrestling purists—but placement seems to count for something here.

And to me, the positioning of Ibushi at the very top of the show further reinforces his tag as one of the favourites to win the tournament outright. That opening shot of Ibushi, with the CWC logo in the background, just seemed to be a clear allusion of things to come.

Either that or I’ve just been completely worked by the WWE’s production team…
