7 Times Wrestling Promotions Turned Lemons Into Lemonade
7. Eddie Kingston Gets A Title Shot After Lance Archer Is Forced To Stay Home
If you've been watching AEW Dynamite (and if you're not, you should be), you'd know that Lance Archer is the number one contender to the AEW Championship, earning the right after winning the Casino Battle Royale at All Out in September. The match went ahead later than planned due to Lance Archer testing positive for COVID-19, putting short term plans regarding the build up to the title match in jeopardy. Enter Eddie Kingston.
Kingston was the last man eliminated in the battle royale. However, eagle-eyed viewers would have noticed he wasn't actually eliminated as he didn't actually go over the top rope, instead sliding under the bottom rope to get onto the apron, and later being thrown off of the second turnbuckle. This was not mentioned on the night of the battle royale by the commentary team, and was instead first brought up by Kingston in a promo on Dynamite.
At first, it looked as if AEW were going to drag out and build upon Kingston's complaint, as Moxley and Archer were scheduled to continue their rivalry without the involvement of Kingston. However when it was confirmed Archer was to miss tapings, the trigger was pulled on Kingston vs. Moxley, and an entertaining mini rivalry and a competitive match between champion and challenger followed. Although unsuccessful , Kingston looked strong against the champion and solidified himself as one to watch in All Elite Wrestling.
