2. On The Night, AEW Nailed It

After arriving in the arena in what presumably was a very expensive car, Mercedes Moné kicked off the show.

She looked incredible, as ever - a massive star with an A-list aesthetic. Her new theme 'CEO', with an in-built chant, is a total ear-worm. Singing along with it is irresistible. The song beckons everybody to chant along with it; before she even enters the ring, she has received a booming ovation and conjured a rocking atmosphere.

This was a tremendous debut. In a nice moment, she was allowed to simply speak from the heart, tell a digest version of her backstory, and thank the fans for staying with her throughout her journey in wrestling - which of course began in that very area. She expressed a desire to wrestle virtually everybody, and by mimicking the rhythm of a certain catchphrase, may well have teased a match with Dr. Britt Baker down the line.

She was composed, sincere, humble (without betraying that magic star aura). Really, as simple and direct as it was, it was perfect - a complete 180 from her flat introduction for New Japan last year.

She ended the promo with a pose as the chants were echoed back to her at a deafening volume once again. Moné received the superstar treatment and presented herself as a superstar in a strong indication that, after five unacceptable years, the women's division might actually become something.
