7 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (9 Mar)

Not an edge-of-your-seat Dynamite, but Jeff Hardy, Jericho, Sky, and more made it a newsworthy one.

This week's episode of AEW Dynamite was typical of what you get from the promotion following a big pay-per-view.

Rather than an edge-of-your-seat, blow-away show, this was a table-setter. AEW spent two hours wrapping up most Revolution storylines, adding lawyers to a couple of others, and manoeuvring key players into new positions. It's all by design. You don't show your entire hand on the first show of a new pay-per-view cycle, but do plant seeds, create hooks, and deliver news-worthy developments.

Dynamite delivered in that last category in particular. With multiple stable splits, managers getting fired, a debut, a contract signing, and more, this was a real headline-hogger (despite the night's biggest "surprise" being something everybody and their blind dachshund saw coming). And if the more obvious crowd-popping moments weren't enough to reel you in, outstanding performances from William Regal, Dante Martin, Scorpio Sky, and more likely did.

There were some repetitive beats here and not everything hit the desired levels, as always. Nonetheless, it's better to get these things out of the system in the first show of the arc, not the go-home. These next few weeks should be fun.

Let's light the fuse...
