Most WWE fans approached Survivor Series 2017 with a great deal of excitement. With one of the most star-studded lineups in modern pay-per-view history perfectly positioned in a compelling series of inter-brand clashes, the stage was set for a real blow-away show, closing the chaotic #UnderSiege arc on a breathtaking high.

Did it deliver?

Yes and no.

WWE peppered Survivor Series with excellence, but there were plenty of moments that illustrated the dangers of succumbing to their remarkably efficient hype machine. Spotlights were stolen as younger stars took the backseat to part-time veterans. Over-booking plagued both traditional elimination matches, though they weren't without high points. The other bouts' quality varied, and while a couple somehow over-delivered, several swung in the opposite direction.

Brock Lesnar, The Shield, AJ Styles, John Cena, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton: the show featured every major name WWE could have conceivably called on. They delivered a good pay-per-view, but not a great one, and while the end sum was a net positive, it's hard to shake the feeling that Survivor Series should've been more.
