It was two years ago at the TakeOver during Royal Rumble weekend that #DIY lost the NXT Tag Team Championships to the Authors of Pain.
Saturday, TakeOver: Phoenix closed with both members of that team, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, holding gold aloft. This time, it was an uneasy alliance between the former partners turned bitter enemies as they stood next to each other on the stage. There’s been a teased reunion between Gargano and Ciampa for a little while now, but Johnny has always had a wary eye on Tommaso.
Saturday, when Gargano joined Ciampa onstage, it looked like he was more comfortable standing next to him, but there still was a decent amount of uncertainty there. You’ve got to wonder how that will play out the coming weeks and months. It could actually be a really cool story if they tell it well.
