5. Cruiserweight Title Goes On The Road

It’s been a strange journey for this iteration of the Cruiserweight Championship.

The purple title got its start back in 2016 when TJ Perkins won the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic, which came with the title. He then began defending it on Raw, before 205 Live became the home for wrestlers weighing under 205 pounds. It then became solely property of 205 Live before migrating to NXT and being rechristened an official NXT championship.

Saturday, the title took another step in its journey, as Jordan Devlin won a fatal four-way match for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, sending the belt from NXT across the pond to NXT UK. While you might feel like the title should be defended here in the Americas, or that Angel Garza was cheated, or whatever, let’s face it: The Cruiserweight Championship wasn’t setting the world on fire here, and a short stint in Britain, where most wrestlers are smaller anyway, could help the UK brand.

It also allows for some fun swapping, with NXT contenders maybe going over there, and the UK-based champ coming to Full Sail to defend his title.
