Vince panics, writers sink to the occasion, making for disappointing a PPV.
What can you say about WWE these days? They have an ever-expanding roster of some of the most talented wrestlers in the world. They have production values second to none. They have an army of writers who supposedly have been successful in previous ventures.
So why are ratings tanking almost weekly these days? Why is fan interest waning, while fan unrest is increasing? Why is WWE, a global sports entertainment juggernaut, putting on such disappointing and tone-deaf shows like Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV?
Vince McMahon’s desperation was on full display Sunday, as he went back to the well known as Brock Lesnar in a shock finish that left fans “stunned silent,” which apparently was the announcers’ colloquialism for “too pissed-off to boo.” This left this writer with such a sour taste in his mouth that he had to walk away from the computer for 10 minutes to try to write something without a ton of profanity.
It really is maddening to see how they have great personalities, characters, athletes and performers on the roster, and stuff like Brock winning a match he wasn’t entered in, an admitted bigot beating up luchadores days after being fined and punished, and the chairman’s son winning a match he should have lost three minutes in continue to happen.
Money in the Bank was a huge disappointment overall, though it did have some good moments. Let’s plow through it all. Let’s get to it…
