Is this entry a bit of a copout? Because it feels like a bit of a copout.

A Russian chain match is essentially just another incarnation of the aforementioned strap matchso you can probably already tell where this slide is going.

The match-type has only been utilised once; back in 2015 when John Cena defended his United States Championship against Rusev (who, of course, at the time was in a Russian phase of his Bulgaria-Russia flip-flopping).

And while it wasn€™t a particularly bad match, personally I think it would have been better off contested under different rules, or even as a straightforward singles bout. It just felt like a classic example of the WWE wanting to add a stipulation for the sake of it, rather than because it was necessary.

When compared against a strap match though, at least a chain match seems to be a more extreme match-typebased purely on the simple idea that it probably hurts more being smacked by a steel chain than it does a leather strap.

But on another note, since when were chain associated with Russia?
