First of all, it's important to establish that Aiden English, Rusev and Lana are all secondary characters on SmackDown, and what they're doing probably isn't the priority during creative meetings. Nonetheless, WWE had already started the ball rolling on a teased split from English before doing a 180° turn on this week's show.

Suddenly, after Lana had hinted to her husband that English was holding him back, she's happy to let the "Drama King" write new songs, make signs and raise her hand post-victory. It's like the backstage tension in early May never even happened.

If you're sensing a pattern here, don't be surprised.

Somewhere along the line, SmackDown's creative team appear to have scrapped their already-televised plans to distance Aiden from the gang. If they weren't sure about the angle's potential, then they shouldn't have aired it on television in the first place.
