Now, I'm not going to sit here and tell you that Mauro Ranallo is the greatest wrestling commentator since Jim Ross, or that he is the saviour of the announce booth. He is good, that is for sure, but merely sitting him down there isn't going to make everything better all of a sudden. Even so, the difference between the booth with Mauro and the booth without Mauro is large enough to be noticeable. When his voice came out to begin proceedings on the pre-show last night, many watching would have been imbued with a certain sense of hope, a feeling of warmth that can only come from knowing there will be more than Michael Cole and JBL (and Byron) to listen to all evening. As it was, Ranallo called the pre-show match between Kalisto and Alberto Del Rio and nothing else. It was a cruel teaser, a tempting look at what people actually want with no payoff other than to increase the annoyance of the viewers. If WWE are serious about Ranallo, he needs to be made a full-time announcer for these special events.
