8. WWE Championship Match vs. R-Truth - Capitol Punishment 2011
John Cena, by his own admission on Steve Austin's The Steve Austin Show podcast, has a tendency to do whatever WWE Creative hands him with little or no resistance. His work ethic and loyalty to the company is a great thing most of the time but his reluctance to upset the proverbial apple cart can be detrimental to both the quality of the show as a whole and Cena's segments more specifically. As hard as he works and as much as he may put a smile on his face and tout his love for his job, fans can tell when Cena does not believe in a program he may be working. Never before was that more evident than in 2011 as then-WWE champion Cena engaged a freshly turned R-Truth. At June 2011's Capitol Punishment pay-per-view, they met in the night's main event. Cena appeared to be going through the motions en route to a successful title defense. Unfortunately for R-Truth the match ended any chance he had of a sustained main event run while Cena moved on to his now-historic rivalry with CM Punk, which launched the Straight Edge star to the top of the industry. It was one of several instances on this list where Cena emerged from a match as bulletproof as ever while his opponent was irreparably damaged.
