3. Trick Williams vs Carmelo Hayes

This should have been an open goal for WWE. Carmelo Hayes has been one of WWE’s best performers of the last 2 years, with a superb summer of matches that rejuvenated Andrade El Idolo in 2024, followed by winning the Andre the Giant Battle Memorial Trophy in 2025, and a superb run with the US title into the start of this year.

Trick Williams is the hottest thing on SmackDown and maybe in the whole WWE right now. Given the NXT history between him and Melo, Sami Zayn getting between the two has felt like an unnecessary side quest. Zayn’s one of the best workers in wrestling, but his short reign with the United States Championship and subsequent rivalry with Trick may have squandered a generational feud between the former friends turned rivals.

After Melo's wars with the likes of Ilja Dragunov and his open challenge for the US title, Hayes felt hotter than ever as Trick arrived on SmackDown. There’s a chance that the injustice of missing out on WrestleMania causes fans to get behind Melo and the feud with Trick becomes red hot, but the manner in which he’s been disregarded could also see fans ambivalent to a rivalry that should have been Nothing But Net.
