5. One More For The Bad Guys
Six matches, five won by the heels.
Go ahead and check the results. Miz, Alexa Bliss, Cesaro & Sheamus, Neville and Samoa Joe all emerged victorious in title matches or #1 contender matches, making this a PPV that really should be considered a downer (emotionally) overall. Seriously, unless you’re a huge Sasha Banks or Rich Swann fan, this was a bad night for babyfaces and fans of them.
And true, heels should win matches. There have been legit complaints before that WWE has had weak villains. But someone clearly didn’t look at the overall picture before booking these matches for Sunday night. Sure, we got two new champions, but when looking at the overall picture of Raw right now, the babyfaces got it handed to them at Extreme Rules.
A lot of seasoned fans watch for good wrestling, but ultimately, you want angles in which (at least occasionally) the babyface triumphs. And while that won’t happen all the time, you wouldn’t expect a PPV to surface where the heels all win. It’s not a cardinal sin, but it’s a damn odd and deflating thing.
