5. Setting Up For A Meltdown

Conventional wisdom said that New Day should regain their WWE Tag Team Championships at Battleground. The trio has overcome utter silence to become one of the hotter acts in WWE as phony heels. Their message of positivity is also a lesson in hypocrisy, and their €œNew Day Rocks (Sucks)!€ chant can get any crowd to respond. So when they loss the tag titles at Money in the Bank €“ at the height of their popularity €“ it felt like at worst this was a one-month detour. But New Day€™s promo before Sunday€™s match set the table nicely, as the three repeatedly pointed out how they€™ve managed to stay positive despite losing. Xavier Woods€™ manic pleading that they €œdeserve to win€ and that they would win looked like a crazy man trying to hold it together. When you recall the time recently when Xavier nearly told a crowd (in character) that they sucked, it seems like the group is on the verge of a massive breakdown, where they could shed their false positivity and just be full-fledged villains. Either way, this loss looks to do more to damage their psyche than to hinder their push as an act.
