9 Reasons WWE Should Bring Back The Cruiserweight Championship

6. If Presented Properly, It Can Become A Major Draw

The reason that the Cruiserweight Championship failed in WWE the first time was that, after 2004 or so, it wasn€™t given appropriate billing for a title with such a notable lineage. Because Vince didn€™t have faith in the division to begin with, we had such ridiculous champions as Jacqueline, Chavo Sr. and Hornswoggle. But the title can be presented as a top draw for the company, if booked properly. The belt would need to be taken seriously, as an actual championship instead of a joke. Champions and contenders would have to bring their A-game for title matches, and even qualifying for the right to face the champion would have to be presented as a big deal. This would present the belt as prestigious, which in turn would convince fans to watch the contests for the belt. Imagine if the WWE Cruiserweight Championship was defended in the same way as the U.S. Championship was defended while John Cena wore it earlier this year. That belt, which once suffered from apathy and insignificance despite its lineage, was elevated tremendously over a five-month period. If that can be done with a mid-card belt, then certainly the same can be done with a weight-class-specific belt.
