If there is anything a celebrity or major entertainment brand does not want, its PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) getting pissed off and using them as an example. Yet, at SummerSlam 1999, that nightmare very closely became reality. During a Hardcore Championship match pitting Big Boss Man against Al Snow, the hated villain picked up a carrying crate and smashed Snow in the face with it, the implication being that the babyface's pet chihuahua Pepper was inside. And he may very well have been. The camera angles make it impossible to tell for sure. One thing is for certain: commentator Jim Ross did not screw around in covering his company's backside, informing viewers that Pepper was removed from the carrier before Boss Man's heinous actions. No one knows for sure if that was the case, but Boss Man was on such a role as a villain at this point that it should be of zero surprise to anyone that he would stoop to that level. It was hardly the last time WWE would give anything to have fans forget about Boss Man's less-than appropriate treatment of the canine.
