2018's Raw 25 highlighted that WWE have lost touch with the true value of nostalgia. They are, tragically, a company that can no longer mine their history for the right reasons, instead choosing a rather unfocussed approach to managing mythical figures that doesn't drill down on what perpetuated the myths in the first place.

The Gimmick Battle Royal stood in proud opposition to all of that - it was the first time in years WWE had been willing to acknowledge their past (pertinent particularly because half of those that had left for WCW would soon be coming back) and didn't ask anything of its audience or the wrestlers involved beyond an entrance, bringing the right gear and a healthy dose of banter.

The Iron Sheik won the match because his body couldn't take a bump - but live audiences had already had their fill in the 3:07 delivered. Adding Bobby Heenan and Mean Gene Okerlund to the commentary booth was another inspired element.
