9 Ups & 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Oct 9)
Ups...
9. "24-YEAR-OLD PIECE OF GOLD!"
Worked at a blistering pace when it wasn't broken up by ad breaks, Lio Rush's cathartic victory over Drew Gulak furthered his brand new arc as one of the year's great comeback stories. He'll now be required to proffer the same proliferation for the rechristened NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
The outgoing Champion was magnificent on offence here, crisply calculating his cut-offs just as unlikely white meat face Rush appeared to be fighting back from underneath. As dynamic and explosive as any lightweight in the entire company, this was the perfect tale to tell, with Gulak looking tough enough to be the sort of pr*ck putting sparklers out with his fingers on bonfire night. Unfortunately for the titleholder, the fuse was already lit (AF).
Rush's final, decisive comeback saw his boy-popping bottom rope springboard stunner used as the set-up for his match winning Final Hour frog splash. That felt like a tribute to late Eddie Guerrero on what would have been 'Latino Heat's birthday, much like the victory itself.
