Remember a few years ago when Heath Slater spent weeks tormenting WWE legends until Raw 1000, when Lita (and a host of other legends) toppled and embarrassed him?
Flash-forward to Monday, when Sami Zayn assumed the Slater role and got his a** handed to him by Rey Mysterio after mouthing off to the legends. (However, Sami did get off an awesome line about how watching Raw Reunion was like re-watching the Attitude Era through FaceApp.) Mysterio defended their honor and then took the fight to Zayn.
During the match, Sami attempted to walk out, but Rob Van Dam, Sgt. Slaughter, The Hurricane and Kurt Angle blocked his path, sending Zayn back into the ring and a quick defeat.
This was your simple, inoffensive use of legends, and it tied in the existing angle of Zayn being curmudgeonly about what was happening in WWE.
