Enough with the authority figure role already. Its tired. Like the set design, this is an idea that has been around for the better part of two decades and regardless of whether the character playing the part is a babyface or a heel, the role needs to be eliminated. We can thank Austin vs. McMahon for the reason the on-screen authority figure has been a WWE staple since 1998, but its time to move on from this. It's just another example of the WWE finding something that worked at one point in time but staying with it long past its expiration date. If necessary, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon can still remain as on-air talent and be utilized on TV in a number of ways, but do the Executive VP of Talent, Live Events & Creative and the company's Chief Brand Officer really need that extra paycheck? Don't get me wrong, Stephanie is one of the best heels in the business and is near peerless on the mic. Triple H is an all-time great that can still go in the ring a couple times a year, but their constant presence on TV is excessive and comes at the expense of other, younger talent. Those two characters can be present without the GM/President/COO/Chairman/Principal Owner/CEO role. Why not go back to the seldom-seen President of the WWE appearing only when it felt necessary, and from behind a desk somewhere, presumably in Titan Towers? Just the appearance of Jack Tunney or Gorilla Monsoon made an event feel special, and the audience had to listen up to the message they were about to deliver. In 2015, to still clutch so tightly onto this role from another time period is not only boring but its lazy, its been done-to-death, and it insults the viewers intelligence.
