9 WWE Championship Wins That Were Completely Overshadowed
2. Mankind - WWF RAW Is War 1999
It is often called the moment that changed the Monday Night Wars, the very moment that saw momentum turn in favour of the World Wrestling Federation for good. WCW and WWF had been trading ratings leads for a few weeks, with over 10 million people tuning in to watch professional wrestling every Monday night.
WCW had been in a commanding position for the previous couple of years, however, and WWF's improvements had them looking more and more desperate.
Nitro was still live, and it would use this to its advantage by announcing the results of WWF matches before they happen. The most infamous of these saw Tony Schiavone state that 'we understand that Mick Foley, who wrestled here at one time as Cactus Jack, is gonna win their world title. Ha! That'll put butts in seats'.
One Fingerpoke of Doom later, the war was well on its way to its end.
Mrs. Foley's baby boy achieved his boyhood dream of winning the WWF Championship, but the achievement of the individual was overshadowed by the bigger war between the two companies. Heck. Foley's title win in itself was overshadowed by the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin, whose music played to rapturous applause in Worcester, Mass.
