It's very rare that a wrestle will go their entire career without turning at some point. The likes of Rey Mysterio and Ricky Steamboat were perpetual babyfaces but they are the exceptions to the rule. Most wrestlers, especially those who work for WWE, will more than likely turn from good to bad and back again at least a few times (or in the case of Big Show, 263 times).

it's obvious why WWE does this, since too much of the same thing can wear a bit thin and become stale. I mean, there isn't a single person (above the age of twelve) that doesn't want to see John Cena have a go at being a heel, is there? Saying that, it could be argued that a portion of the audience turned him 'heel' a long time ago.

It wouldn't be the first or last time that a crowd's response to a performer dictated whether they were wearing a white or a black hat. Although the men with the pencils would ideally like to say when and where a guy or gal is going to turn, sometimes it's left out of their hands as crowd responses interferes with plans and forces their WWE's hand.
