Each of the three foreign objects from a TLC match gets its own signature match at the TLC pay-per-view. At this years event, John Cena and Seth Rollins will square off in a tables match. Tables matches are interesting because they allow a wrestler to win a match without pinning his opponent they just need to put them through a table. This is particularly effective at protecting a performer or giving someone a win without necessarily beating them in the traditional sense. This was on full display at the first TLC PPV, where Sheamus defeated John Cena to win his first WWE Championship in a tables match. As Sheamus had debuted on ECW less than six months earlier, he won when Cena fell backward off the top turnbuckle through a table while attempting a superplex. The Miz would retain his WWE Championship the following year against Randy Orton in a tables match. Since then, the tables match has been used in a grudge match between Randy Orton and Wade Barrett and a Tag Team Championship number one contenders match between the Rhodes Scholars and Rey Mysterio/Sin Cara. This years installment also does not have a title on the line, but Cenas number one contenders spot for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will disappear if he loses.
