Adam Cole Receives AEW Contract Offer
The former NXT Champion is weighing up offers from both WWE and AEW.
All Elite Wrestling have offered Adam Cole a contract.
Dave Meltzer writes in this week's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the former NXT Champion has received offers from both AEW and WWE, though he is yet to make a decision.
Provided he doesn't renew with WWE before then, Cole will become a free agent after WWE SummerSlam 2021 weekend. He is expected to wrestle former Undisputed Era stablemate Kyle O'Reilly in what could end up being his last match with the company at NXT TakeOver 36 on the Sunday (22 August).
This comes following news that the 32-year-old's previous WWE contract expired in July. Company officials had been operating under the assumption that Cole was contracted to the promotion until December, but Cole, who has been praised for being easy to work with on the situation, has since signed a short-term agreement to stay through SummerSlam weekend.
That AEW would be interested in signing him is not surprising. Positioned as one of NXT's brand-leading stars for the majority of his four-year run, Cole's crowd connection, charisma, and in-ring work are impeccable, and he has great history with a lot of people inside that promotion. For now, though, his future hangs in the balance.
