AEW And Cody Announce Injury After Steel Cage Match
You don't take a bump like that without cost.
Cody Rhodes and AEW have announced on social media that the star suffered an injury in his Steel Cage showdown with Wardlow on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite.
Moonsaulting off the top of the cage - in what was one of the most spectacular visuals we've been treated to from the company so far - Cody appeared to land awkwardly and he confirmed on his Instagram account that the fall didn't come without a price.
He captioned an image which circled the exact moment the injury was inflicted with the comment 'Long way down…’ – small fracture in my big toe, but I’m on a treatment plan with @docwholifts_1 & CLEARED for action. @allelitewrestling @aewontnt #aew'.
After this post went live, AEW backed up this claim by tweeting that 'As first reported by @CodyRhodes on his IG account And confirmed by @DocSampson13. Due to Cody’s foot hitting the mat after landing the moonsault, he has a: Non-displaced fracture of distal phalanx R great toe. His status: Cleared for action as tolerated'.
MJF and Cody's grudge match still looks set to go down at Revolution on February 29 and the former commented on Cody's injury by simply posting the pair of eyeballs emoji as a caption.
Will the injury play into the pair's storyline or will Cody be more focused on trying to get the upper hand on MJF next week on the last stop before their highly anticipated battle?
We'll keep you updated as the road to Revolution reaches its last stop before next Saturday's event, with next Wednesday's go-home Dynamite looking like its going to be another must-watch show.
