Last night's AEW Dynamite saw the promotion announce a tournament to crown the next number one contender to Jon Moxley's World Championship, with the winner getting their opportunity at Full Gear 2020 on 7 November.

Kenny Omega, Jungle Boy, and Rey Fenix were named as the first three competitors in a field of eight. The announcement that Omega is participating bristled Hangman Page, his (former?) tag team partner, who walked out of a guest commentary spot after hearing the news.

There's currently no word on when the tournament will start and whether or not it will play out exclusively on Dynamite, though it's likely safe to assume it will.

Moxley's next AEW World Championship defence comes against Lance Archer on Dynamite's one-year anniversary show (14 October). Archer is currently off television after confirming he had tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him into a two-week self-isolation period. He is expected to return to television next week, though Mox has stayed busy without him, becoming embroiled in a war with Eddie Kingston and his heel stable.

Last year's Full Gear pay-per-view featured Chris Jericho vs. Cody for the World Title, plus Moxley vs. Omega in an unsanctioned Lights Out match.
