AEW Double Or Nothing To Screen On ITV Box Office In UK
AEW have made deal with one of Britain's biggest broadcasters.
Now this could be pretty big news.
Those in the UK have been wondering how they can legally watch AEW's Double or Nothing, and today they've received an answer, as Tony Khan's upstart promotion has announced a partnership with major terrestrial broadcaster ITV to air the show.
For £14.95, fans will be able to stream the company's first pay-per-view via the ITV Box Office channel. The event kicks off at 1am UK time, with the BUY-IN kickoff airing for free on ITV4 an hour before hand.
"We're delighted to announce this partnership with AEW, whose entry into professional wrestling is already making a massive impact on the industry and promises to deliver an electrifying event later this month, and a fantastic experience for our viewers and wrestling fans in the UK," said Niall Sloane, ITV's Director of Sport. "Joining forces with AEW for this event is faithful to ITV's More Than TV strategy to develop direct relationships with viewers through big events available on its platforms."
Of course, this could just be a one-off thing, but the noises coming from both parties seem to suggest a long-term partnership contingent on the success of Double or Nothing. In effect then, this could result in AEW airing on the UK's largest and most available TV station.
The news will no doubt cause some degree of alarm in an already panicked WWE Head Office, who were caught cold by the return of World of Sport to ITV in 2016. It's fair to say AEW presents a much bigger and potentially dangerous challenge to WWE's current UK hegemony.
Double or Nothing is set for 25 May from Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena, and will be headlined by Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega and Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes.
