AEW Dynamite Ratings Down Slightly, WWE NXT Holds Steady
Wrestling continues to hold up reasonably well against the NBA playoffs.
Live professional wrestling shows faced stern competition from an important NBA playoff game between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics on Wednesday night, though only AEW Dynamite experienced declines.
Headlined by World Champion Jon Moxley vs. Eddie Kingston and TNT Champion Mr. Brodie Lee vs. Orange Cassidy, Dynamite hit a 0.32 rating in the key 18-49 demographic, down 0.02 on the previous week. This was enough to outdo WWE NXT’s 0.18, which didn’t change from 16 September.
As far as overall viewership goes, Dynamite fell from an average of 886,000 across its two hours to 835,000. NXT, meanwhile, posted a slight increased, going from 689,000 to 696,000. Both differences fall within the Nielsen system’s accepted 10% margin of error.
A total of 1.531 million people watched live wrestling on Wednesday night.
The aforementioned NBA game pulled a 1.76 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an average viewership of 4.484 million viewers. It finished first on the night amongst cable shows, with Dynamite 9th and NXT 38th. The NHL also provided sports competition, with a Stanley Cup game between the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning doing 0.32 and 1.145 million.
