AEW Full Gear 2022: Match Pulled, Moved To Dynamite
AEW just reconfigured its Full Gear 2022 lineup. Here's why.
The final match in AEW's ongoing World Title Eliminator Tournament will take place on next Wednesday's Dynamite, not at Full Gear 2022 as originally intended.
Having played out over the past few weeks, the competition's intent is to determine a new number one contender, with the victor facing Jon Moxley or MJF for the World Championship at next month's Winter Is Coming special. AEW pinpointed Full Gear for the finals upon announcing the Eliminator, though an issue with Ricky Starks has forced its postponement.
Starks was due to face Lance Archer on last Friday's Rampage. This Eliminator bout ended up being pulled from the show following a beatdown angle, leaving AEW with only two shows to cram it and a semi-final pitting the winner against Brian Cage before Full Gear.
It has since been announced that Ricky and Lance will fight on tonight's Rampage. The victor faces Cage on Full Gear's Zero Hour pre-show, with the winner meeting Ethan Page on Wednesday.
AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan confirmed the new configuration during yesterday's pre-pay-per-view media call. He noted that Starks legitimately wasn't cleared to compete at some point, necessitating the changes, though further details on Ricky's injury weren't disclosed.
Full Gear 2022 takes place in Newark, New Jersey tomorrow evening (19 November).
