AEW Star Undergoes Surgery On Torn ACL
A long recovery period awaits this injured AEW newcomer...
Jake Atlas has undergone surgery for a torn ACL suffered in his second AEW match.
Signed to the promotion after coming out of wrestling hiatus in December 2021, Atlas faced Adam Cole on the 7 January episode of Rampage but hurt his knee while springboarding into the ring towards the end. This rendered him unable to take Cole's Panama Sunrise finisher, forcing the duo to adapt on the fly.
After the show, Atlas used Twitter to let fans know he wouldn't be gone for long. Now, he has delivered the following update, saying that he was looking forward to starting rehab after surgery:-
hi everyone! quick update :) My injury from my match with Adam Cole is, unfortunately, a torn ACL. I'm in good spirits, though. AEW has been extremely supportive throughout & surgery yesterday was a success. I'm disappointed that this occurred so soon after my return to wrestling & joining AEW, BUT I'm not going anywhere. I'm not quitting. I worked diligently with prehab before surgery & I look forward to getting straight to work on rehab now post-surgery so that I can get back in the ring as soon as possible & do what I do best.
This is the first time Jake has publically disclosed the nature and severity of his injury.
All the best to him as he recovers from an issue that often sidelines people for the best part of a year.
