AEW Star's Contract Expiring Soon, WWE Interest Gauged
This AEW wrestler's deal is reportedly up within a matter of weeks.
Brian Cage's AEW contract is due to expire within the next few weeks, reports Fightful Select.
The writeup states that there have been "feelers within WWE" to gauge the market-leading promotion's interest in Cage, who could become a free agent if he doesn't agree to a renewal with AEW. Whether or not WWE and Cage are interested in each other is currently unclear, however.
This comes roughly 11 months after AEW caught Cage by surprise by triggering a one-year renewal option on his contract during a period of inactivity. At one point, 'The Machine' went 13 months between Dynamite appearances, with his absence sparking speculation on his future prior to the renewal.
News that Brian had signed with AEW broke in January 2020, though injury prevented him from debuting until Double Or Nothing that May. Though he slotted into a regular role with Team Taz, Cage's summer 2021 feud with Ricky Starks saw him effectively disappear after his conclusive defeat, not resurfacing under Tony Khan's promotional umbrella until ROH Supercard of Honor XV in April 2022.
Cage has since returned to a more regular role in AEW and ROH. The reigning ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion faces Bryan Danielson at MJF's behest on tonight's Dynamite.
