The masked high-flyer revealed, on Thursday, that he is set to leave AEW when his contract expires on Saturday, 1 July. This will end a three-year affiliation with the process that began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Fuego was regularly used as a Dark and Dark: Elevation enhancement talent before earning his full-time deal.

Said the 27-year-old of his impending departure (h/t Wrestling Observer):-

"Hello, world. As of July 1, my time with All Elite Wrestling will have come to an end and I will officially become a free agent. However, I am proud to say that I've been cleared to return to the ring from injury and I am now accepting bookings any and everywhere."

Fuego, who combined in-ring work for AEW with a backstage role, added:-

"I will always look back fondly and cherish the night I got signed and how genuine that moment was. But even though this chapter is coming to a close, this is just the beginning for Fuego Del Sol. At 27 years old, I'm just getting started. I've barely scratched the surface on showing the world just how damn good Fuego Del Sol is."

Real-life friend Sammy Guevara offered Fuego a full-time AEW deal following the 13 August 2021 episode of Rampage, in which Fuego fought TNT Champion Miro in a valiant defeat. This followed an organic groundswell of support for the masked man, who had gradually gotten over on AEW's YouTube series, culminating in his big night with Miro.

Fuego last wrestled for AEW on 15 February, falling to Juice Robinson on the since-cancelled Dark: Elevation.
