Another chess piece has come off the board recently.

Fightful Select reports that Brian Cage is remaining with AEW, inking a new multi-year deal with the company this week. Cage, the current Ring of Honor Six-Man Tag Team Champion as part of the Embassy, actually had become a free agent shortly after ROH's Supercard of Honor ended earlier this month. However, several top talents reportedly had been pushing for him to re-sign with AEW/ROH.

But Fightful also notes that WWE had interest in Cage, which is of little surprise: The Machine looks like a prototypical sports entertainment superstar. However, Cage -- who used an agent during this negotiating process -- liked AEW's offer and chose to remain.

Cage's tenure with AEW has been a winding road, winning the Casino Ladder match in his debut at Double or Nothing 2020 and then being gifted the FTW Championship as part of Team Taz. He would lose the title and disappear from AEW programming in October 2021 as speculation mounted about his future with the company. Cage would not return to television until September 2022. Shortly after, he would join ROH's the Embassy, winning the Six-Man Tag Titles in December 2022.

Most recently, the Embassy merged with Swerve Strickland's Mogul Affiliates on last week's AEW Rampage, attacking Darby Allin.

Fightful noted that AEW "worked hard to get the deal done" in recent weeks, and terms were agreed to in principle by the time of the angle on Rampage.
