An interesting Twitter exchange unfolded between AEW TNT Champion Cody and a commenter over the weekend, leading to 'The American Nightmare's' assertion that he "doesn't believe in midcard titles."

It began with Cody claiming he wanted to make the TNT Title "the most important and coveted belt of all time" in response to wrestling journalist Mike Killam. Another Twitter user then chimed in, asking "shouldn't the world championship be more important than the tnt [sic] championship?"

Cody replied with the following:-

It's an interesting insight into 'The American Nightmare's' pro-wrestling philosophy, which mirrors that of coach Arn Anderson, who'd often talk (in kayfabe) or wanting to make his old NWA Television Title the most prestigious prize in professional wrestling by putting it on the line every week.

This is close to what Cody has done with the TNT Championship. While he hasn't defend it on every episode of Dynamite since defeating Lance Archer at Double Or Nothing (23 May), Cody has already mounted eight successful defences in a relatively short period of time, felling the likes of Scorpio Sky, Jake Hager, and Jungle Boy.

Cody's next TNT Title defence comes on this Saturday's rescheduled episode of Dynamite, where he faces The Dark Order's Mr. Brodie Lee.
