Taz becomes the latest in a long line of professional wrestlers to undergo stem cell treatment in recent years. That number includes the likes of Kevin Nash and Kurt Angle, both of whom have suffered from professional wrestling's myriad physical rigours since stepping away from the squared circle.
More recently, former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega underwent stem cell treatment in 2021, claiming that doing so helped him feel "a lot better" in the midst of a physically intense run atop Tony Khan's promotion.
Taz has been with AEW since signing in January 2020, having effectively auditioned as a guest commentator on Dark, the Full Gear 2019 pay-per-view Buy In pre-show, and Dynamite between November 2019 and inking his deal. The 54-year-old has not wrestled full-time since 2002, though his last match was a 35-minute flattening of Jerry 'The King' Lawler at ECW One Night Stand 2006.
