AJ Styles Teases Shawn Michaels Match At WWE Royal Rumble 2017
The Phenomenal One really, really wants HBK at the Royal Rumble.
The WWE Champion wants a match against Shawn Michaels at the Royal Rumble, and he's making no secret about it.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated that was released today A.J. Styles had this to say about Michaels:
“I would love the opportunity to wrestle him. I’d love to learn from him, but who’s to say if that’s going to happen. Right now, it’s all speculation and rumors that I’m finding out like everyone else is, but man, what a match that would be.”
In addition to that, he shared a photo created by a fan on Twitter that shows him going face-to-face with Michaels at the Rumble.
With the show taking place in Michael's home state, he's bound to be involved in some form. It's a huge night for the company, as they're going to try to sell at least 60,000 tickets, so they can top what they drew there for the 1997 Rumble.
Unfortunately, a match between the two is highly unlikely. By the time the show comes around, it will have been almost six years since HBK last wrestled. There would have to be a huge story for him to come out of retirement, otherwise it could look a bit disrespectful to The Undertaker, due to the amazing send-off they gave him after WrestleMania 26. Still, if it did go down, it could be pretty damn amazing (even at HBK's age). But it's best not to get our hopes up.
Perhaps if Styles keeps trying, and fans keep getting on-board, it just may happen. Vince McMahon may end up making Michaels a big offer that he simply can't turn down. See Goldberg and Styles himself for proof of that.
