WWE has announced that former World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio has been suspended for 30 days following a Wellness Policy violation.

This is his first failure, which is why, like Roman Reigns, he'll only be out for a month.

Most recently Del Rio was drafted to SmackDown, and seemed to be one of the wrestlers who would benefit the most from the brand split. So far, though, he's only been used to put over John Cena and Randy Orton.

To make matters more interesting, The Wrestling Observer has reported that Del Rio has an out clause in his contract in September. This could put his return right around the time he would be free to leave the company. You have to wonder if WWE will even bother bringing him back to TV if he seems destined to leave.

This caps off an incredibly lackluster year for Del Rio. After a hot return pinning Cena for the United States Title in under 10 minutes, he's been completely wasted since then. A disastrous pairing with Zeb Colter halted his momentum, and he's barely been given any mic time to speak of.

While it was three years ago that Del Rio walked out of SummerSlam with the World Heavyweight Title, as A.J. Styles pointed out on SmackDown, he wasn't even booked for this year's show.
