Impact Wrestling has announced the release of Alberto El Patron, 24 hours after he was said to have no-showed an event in New Orleans.

The company confirmed via Twitter yesterday that the 40-year-old's contract had been terminated with immediate effect. Formerly Alberto Del Rio during his time with WWE, he had been employed by Impact for over a year, holding its world title until July of 2017.

As reported by PWInsider, El Patron was absent from Friday's Lucha Underground vs. Impact event, with officials supposedly growing concerned about his well-being after being unable to contact him at his hotel. On Saturday, he reportedly missed another scheduled appearance at WrestleCon.

Impact has now been forced into a last-minute reshuffle for its 22 April pay-per-view, Redemption. Instead of facing El Patron - as announced back in January - Austin Aries will now defend his Impact World Championship in a triple threat match with Pentagón and Fénix.

With shows set to go out between now and Redemption already taped, however, producers will likely need to make some late edits to keep viewers appraised of the real-life developments involving their former number one contender.
