Alison Brie To Star In Netflix's Pro Wrestling TV Series G.L.O.W.
From team behind Orange Is The New Black.
Alison Brie is stepping into the wrestling ring.
No, not for some PR stunt with WWE, but to headline Netflix's upcoming comedy wrestling TV series G.L.O.W. (which stands for Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling).
The series is inspired by the real life women's wrestling league of the 1980s, and Brie will star as Ruth, a struggling actress who finds one last shot at fame when she's thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling.
The comedy series, which will consist of 10 episodes, has been co-created by Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black) and Liz Flahive (Homeland), with the pair also serving as showrunners. It's being exectuive produced by OITNB creator Jenji Kohan and writer/producer Tara Herrmann. That's some strong talent working on the show, and bodes particularly well for a female-driven comedy series given the quality and at-times hilarity of Orange is the New Black.
As for Brie, it's her latest show with Netflix after starring on the great animated comedy BoJack Horseman since 2014, and another foray into TV that has included Community and Mad Men. The actress reportedly had a lot of offers for upcoming TV pilots back in March, for comedy and drama, all of which she turned down, so G.L.O.W. must have something to do to get her to sign on.
There's no word yet on when to expect the series to air, though it's still some way off yet, but more Brie on TV is definitely something to get excited about.
