15. Kalisto
The current US Champion spent most of his time in NXT as a tag team specialist, first with Ricardo Rodriguez’ dumpy luchador alter-ego El Local, and then with masked albatross Sin Cara.
He managed to shine through all of that, and basically carried the Lucha Dragons to an NXT Tag Team Championship reign and a main roster promotion.
Unfortunately, the Dragons didn't get a big debut on Raw, or even on SmackDown. No, they made their first appearance on a random episode of Main Event, defeating the jobber dream team of Curtis Axel and Heath Slater.
They followed that up with a loss to the admittedly much better team of Cesaro and Tyson Kidd the following week, before changing channels to defeat The Ascension on Superstars the week after that.
In fact, they had a crazily one-sided feud with Konor and Viktor on both shows that lasted forever. They didn't make it to Raw until nearly a month after their official debut, but man, if you needed someone to beat the Ascension on a ‘C’ show, Kalisto was your guy.
