Malakai Black might not be the only member of the House of Black to depart AEW.

Fightful Select reports that Buddy Matthews might be finished with the company for a while, or possibly on his way out altogether. Matthews most recently lost a tag match alongside Brody King against Sting & Darby Allin at Rampage: Grand Slam when the Great Muta appeared and misted Buddy and Sting hit him with a Scorpion Deathdrop. Fightful was informed that Muta's misting was a way to write Matthews off TV.

While Fightful has not received confirmation whether Matthews is being released, the outlet has heard several times in recent months that he has been dissatisfied with his situation. One source told Fightful after Grand Slam that they believed those tapings were Buddy's "last night" with AEW, though that hasn't been confirmed.

At a Fight Life Pro Wrestling show this weekend, Matthews told the crowd:

“Unfortunately, tonight, I’m going to be the bearer of some unfortunate news. As everyone knows, the House of Black has had some issues lately. As all the members of the House, I speak beyond the wall, we want to thank you all for being members of the House. Unfortunately, I, like some of the other members, need to go away for a while. I need to recalibrate. I need to figure out some things. As my brother Malakai once said, this isn’t goodbye, this is see you later.”

Matthews debuted with AEW in February, aligning with former rival Malakai Black and joining the House of Black. Prior to that, he wrestled for WWE from 2013 until he was released in June 2021.
