ANOTHER Wrestling Promotion Makes Offer To CM Punk...
Just when you thought the long-awaited CM Punk vs. Tyrus DREAM MATCH was lost forever...
NWA figurehead Billy Corgan has offered CM Punk the chance to come to the brand, "kick some *ss, have some laughs," and eat vegan sandwiches.
Corgan was Andrew Zarian's guest on a recent episode of Mat Men. Speaking on the top-level free agent, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman said that while he knows how to get in touch with Punk, he hasn't done so yet.
Said the NWA chief (h/t Fightful):
“What I would say to Phil, and I’m not trying to use this as an open forum, I’m saying to you what I would say to Phil, and again, I have not reached out and I certainly know how to get in touch with him. What I could say to him is, he would have a lot of fun in the NWA. I think Phil, the person, loves professional wrestling.”
Continuing, Corgan conceded that while the NWA couldn't pay Punk his true value, the 44-year-old would have fun under the promotion's banner:
“That man loves professional wrestling. He may not love the professional wrestling business, but he loves professional wrestling. My only appeal to Punk would be, if you want to have some fun, I can’t pay you what you’re worth, but if you want to have some fun, come have some fun in the NWA. We’ll kick some *ss, we’ll have some laughs, and I’ll buy you a vegan sandwich.”
Punk has been a free agent since AEW fired him with cause in early September, doing so after a backstage fight with Jack Perry at August's All In show that left company founder Tony Khan, in his own words, fearful for his life.
A long-speculated WWE return has since been ruled out for Punk, for now. IMPACT Wrestling is understood to be interested in the Chicagoan, though the Anthem-helmed group, like the NWA, may lack the resources.
