Tony Khan's Twitter/X posts criticising WWE's booking of its World Heavyweight Championship were not as big a deal backstage in AEW as they were online this week.

Although the AEW founder and CEO succeeded in whipping up an opinion storm after pointing out a perceived double standard in the contrasting reactions to Jinder Mahal's WWE title elevation and Hook's in AEW, it wasn't a "heavy topic of conversation" at last night's tapings.

Fightful Select reports as much, stating that while the topics were brought up by some present in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday, it was a lesser topic compared to Wednesday.

A guest on yesterday's episode of WWE's The Bump, Mahal indirectly addressed Khan's tweets (h/t Wrestling Observer):

"It was a great start to the new year until I was interrupted by The Rock. But nonetheless, this past week, was in the ring with Seth Rollins. Told him exactly how I feel, and now I’m number one contender to the World Heavyweight Champion. I was trending on Twitter all day yesterday [laughs]. Trending on Twitter all day yesterday. And somehow, again, the Modern Day Maharaja is the talk of the town."

Mahal, who has been winless on WWE television since 10 January 2023, was established as Rollins' next World Heavyweight Title contender on Monday's Raw.

Wednesday's Dynamite saw Hook walk out to confront AEW World Champion Samoa Joe in a segment also featuring Swerve Strickland and 'Hangman' Adam Page.
