Backstage Latest On Mercedes Moné's AEW Debut Plans
Mercedes Moné, AEW, and WWE remain THE free agency conversation.
AEW expects Mercedes Moné to arrive in the company imminently, though the former Sasha Banks joining the Tony Khan-helmed promotion shouldn't be considered 100% until the ink has dried on her contract.
Dave Meltzer writes in the Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online 'Daily Update' that AEW anticipates Moné debuting on television soon - but perhaps not as soon as this Wednesday's Dynamite.
AEW returns to Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida for a 'Homecoming' special this week. Despite rumours that this might be Mercedes' arrival point, the promotion hasn't teased this.
Meltzer noted AEW's habit of teasing major incoming signings ahead of time. It stands to reason that the group would do the same for Moné, who is the biggest-name free agent left in wrestling.
Recent weeks have seen speculation on Moné's future intensity, with WWE talks reopening over the festive period, then seemingly breaking down as the two parties couldn't agree on terms. Current reporting suggests that Mercedes is "expected" to sign with AEW, scoring a deal that would likely make her amongst the highest-paid female wrestlers in the sport's history. But until that happens, nothing can be ruled out entirely.
