Backstage News On How WWE's Mae Young Classic Will Be Presented
The 32-woman tournament will be released in stages.
WWE's long-awaited women's tournament, the Mae Young Classic, will finally get underway next month, and while the company's plans to release the footage in a different way to last year's Cruiserweight Classic were already known, a fresh report from PWInsider sheds new light on how it will be presented.
As per the write-up, a special tournament preview show will air on WWE Network on Sunday, August 20th. The first round matches will be taped at Full Sail University on July 13th & 14th, and released at once during the final week of the month, allowing fans to binge-watch the episodes.
The second round matches will then be released during the first week of September. The report states that the original plan was to add them to the Network during SummerSlam week, but WWE didn't want the tournament to be overshadowed by everything else happening that week, and changed their mind.
The finals were originally set for August 29th, but the date has been changed to Tuesday, September 12th. It is speculated that they could air live from Las Vegas, as SmackDown is in town that night, though this is yet to be confirmed.
