Backstage Notes On 2 Massive WWE Face/Heel Turns
Update on two major WWE face/heel turns coming out of SummerSlam 2022 and into the Triple H era.
Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch both turned at WWE SummerSlam 2022 (30 July), though only one of these switches has been reflected internally.
PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported on Monday that Becky Lynch going from heel to babyface had been made official, doing so prior to that night's episode of Raw, on which Becky reprised her most successful character, 'The Man'. The night was bittersweet, however, with a sling-clad Lynch confirming she'd suffered a separated shoulder while wrestling Bianca Belair at SummerSlam. A period on the sidelines now awaits Becky, who was attacked by Bayley, Iyo Sky, and Dakota Kai to generate extra drama following her in-ring promo.
SummerSlam also saw Ronda Rousey turn, with the former SmackDown Women's Champion destroying Liv Morgan following their short title fight. Interestingly, Johnson notes that WWE still considers the MMA pioneer a babyface internally.
Rousey had shown increased aggression towards Morgan since losing the SmackDown belt to the cult favourite at Money In The Bank 2022. Perhaps the promotion will opt to flip her listing to "heel" around this Friday's SmackDown, though this is speculative.
A babyface Becky Lynch vs. heel Ronda Rousey has long been rumoured for WrestleMania 39, which hits Inglewood, California on 1 and 2 April 2023.
