Backstage Update On Adam Cole's Expiring WWE Contract
Details on Adam Cole working through SummerSlam 2021 weekend, his WWE contract, and more.
As reported earlier this week, NXT standout Adam Cole's WWE contract expired in July despite company officials operating on the assumption that he was tied down to December, leading to the two parties coming to an agreement on Cole working for WWE through SummerSlam weekend (21 and 22 August).
Fightful Select followed up with a report stating that Cole is yet to be offered a new long-term contract by the promotion. Now, the same outlet has shed new light on the situation.
Per Fightful's latest update, WWE reached a verbal agreement with Cole (re: working through SummerSlam and TakeOver 36) before a short-term extension was officially signed. This clears up confusion on the matter, as whether or not the former NXT Champion had inked a short-term deal wasn't known at the time.
Cole is expected to face rival Kyle O'Reilly at TakeOver 36 on 22 August. This could be set up on next week's episode of NXT, on which the duo will be part of a face to face segment.
Cole, 32, has been with WWE since 2017, and has been positioned as a franchise-leading NXT player for much of his four-year run.
