Backstage Update On How WWE's NXT/Main Roster Call-Ups Have Changed (WWE News)
WWE's approach to NXT > Raw/SmackDown promotions is ever-changing. Here's the latest!
Fightful Select is reporting that WWE's internal approach to NXT > Raw/SmackDown call ups has morphed "over the last year or so". It's different to the view ex-boss Vince McMahon had on things. Both Triple H and Shawn Michaels want to honour the importance of the developmental brand by treating it less like a store cupboard waiting to be plundered and more like a standalone, weekly ongoing concern that should be treated with respect.
Previously, many workers were pulled from NXT programming "immediately" so McMahon could start using them on the bigger brands, but that's no longer the case. Now, instead of putting NXT in a rough spot creatively, higher-ups make sure there's enough time for wrestlers to finish up any storylines/plans they may have on the third show before coming to Monday or Friday nights full-time.
Planned promotions "have been kept way closer to the vest" behind the scenes amongst members of management, and things are generally "less strict" when it comes to whipping a worker from NXT television with short notice. That's likely been helpful to those mapping out NXT programming, because it means they're not suddenly caught short with zero warning.
Fightful cited "the easier main roster schedule" as one such reason for this shift in approach.
Triple H is also happy to bring in workers he doesn't have "immediate main roster plans" for. They're given a fully-fleshed NXT run first and foremost, so it's fairly clear that 'The Game' is content to take things slowly rather than constantly churning through talent on the developmental show and causing those working there serious upheaval.
