Backstage Update On Latest Shock WWE Comebacks
New details emerge on a couple of WWE's recent returns.
Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows returned to WWE on last night's Raw, assisting AJ Styles in his ongoing feud with The Judgment Day, running the heel group out of the ring after Styles had swerved fellow former Bullet Club man Finn Balor into thinking he was joining Judgment Day.
The comeback followed a period of free agency for the (former?) Good Brothers, who were most recently contracted to IMPACT Wrestling with additional New Japan Pro-Wrestling commitments. Gallows and Anderson had openly discussed "contract season" throughout the months leading up to this, including in an interview with WhatCulture over WrestleMania 38 weekend, where they teased signing with AEW.
Following their Raw appearance, it has emerged that Gallows and Anderson were attracting WWE interest before they'd even hit the open market. Fightful Select reports that the market leaders were interested in the duo while they were still contracted to IMPACT - stretching back to the summer.
Gallows and Anderson's New Japan status is an interesting wrinkle to this. Anderson currently reigns as the company's NEVER Openweight Champion, while the duo had previously committed to working for the leading puroresu group through Wrestle Kingdom in January. Whether or not this is still the case is unclear, with Fightful awaiting an answer.
Anderson and Gallows previously wrestled in WWE from 2016 until April 2020, when they were amongst the first casualties of the company's COVID-era "budget cuts."
